Public Safety

Communications Electronics® (CE) has been serving the public safety requirements of Maryland for over 31 years. Established in 1976 as a radio service shop, CE has been committed to building a single source for our customer’s mission critical wireless voice and data systems.

Today CE provides wireless engineering and design services across the entire wireless spectrum. We utilize multiple vendors’ equipment for wide area, in-building and on site applications. Our team of installers, junior and senior technicians, bench technicians, field technicians, and project managers are manufacturer certified to ensure that equipment is installed, serviced and maintained to maximize reliability and longevity of today’s complex communications systems.

CE manages, maintains and supports all critical aspects of the wireless system. Starting from the communications tower, our installers are manufacturer certified for antenna and line installation and current with R56 grounding specifications. Our tower crews perform antenna and line installations, inspection and repair services, structural modifications, microwave path alignment, tower lighting repair and installation as well as new site construction.

CE’s site services do not stop at the tower; we also maintain the tower compound and shelter performing routine and preventative maintenance. Our equipment experience includes HVAC, generators and automatic transfer switches, UPS systems and battery back ups, AC Power, and bonding inspections for both the shelter and tower. We also provide vegetation mediations and routine maintenance for the shelter and fencing. This not only protects the equipment and transmission lines but increases the esthetic appeal of the sites while benefiting compound security.

Inside the shelter our experience and training goes beyond the punch-down block for base station control and transport. We are manufacturer certified for installation, troubleshooting, repair and preventative maintenance for Microwave Equipment and carrier transport including T-1 and leased line connectivity. We install, set levels and perform maintenance on switches, routers and channel banks. Our equipment installers are manufacturer certified, ensuring that equipment is installed correctly, properly tied into the grounding system, back up power system and the antenna system. Our installation work is guaranteed and we take pride in our capabilities.

Dispatch and control systems are another specialty at Communications Electronics®. To date we have installed the largest interconnected console system in Maryland. Utilizing microwave and leased line interconnectivity, we have joined several operations centers and agencies. This system provides redundancy in case of catastrophic failure and also allows the different sites to access the radio resources of other centers reducing system build expense. Responsible for the design, installation and maintenance for these operations centers, CE is proud of the robust command centers we were able to deliver to the State of Maryland.

Video command and control has become another specialty of our technicians and project managers. Over the past 4 years we have been performing maintenance, trouble shooting, installation and repair as well as preventative maintenance which has decreased down time within the Chart network. Our technicians are factory certified and have experience bringing video back over IP, Microwave, and Fiber for the State. CE has also installed security and monitoring systems utilizing multiple platforms for both the State of Maryland and several counties.

Communications Electronics® is authorized to perform installation and maintenance service for most manufacturers, following is a sample list of those most commonly encountered:
